Pet Urns in Indonesia: what to know
Families in Indonesia are often surprised that the ashes return quickly, while the urn they want takes longer than hoped. That gap is normal. The temporary container is made to hold the ashes safely for as long as needed, so use the wait to choose calmly rather than settling for whatever happens to be in stock.
Buying a pet urn in Indonesia is easier than it used to be, with crematory ranges, online sellers and independent makers all delivering nationwide. The trade-offs are delivery time and the risk of damage in transit. Solid wood and metal travel best; ceramic and glass need careful packing.

Local cremation habits and the urn question
We don't have a published cremation rate for this area, but the urn decisions are the same everywhere: how big, what material, whether to engrave and where it will live. Start with capacity, since that rules out most wrong choices, then think about the room it will sit in. The urn size calculator gives you a capacity from your pet's weight.
What pet urns cost in Indonesia
In much of Asia, small apartments shape the urn choice more than price does. A compact urn or a keepsake on a home altar is common, and many pet crematoria sell urns designed for columbarium niches. We don't yet have sourced local urn prices, so the table shows US material prices for relative comparison: marble costs about three times as much as ceramic[1].
Published pet urn prices in Asia are hard to find, so we won't invent a local range for Indonesia. Many families here keep ashes in a columbarium niche instead of, or as well as, an urn at home. At one Singapore pet columbarium, niches start at SGD 300 for the first year with SGD 180 yearly renewal[2]. The niche size limits the urn, so check its dimensions before you buy.
| Item | Published price | Market |
|---|---|---|
| Columbarium niche for pet ashes | SGD 300 first year, SGD 180 a year after | Singapore |
| Ceramic pet urn | $20–$100[3] | United States |
| Metal pet urn | $40–$200[4] | United States |
| Marble or stone pet urn | $80–$300[5] | United States |

What Indonesia allows with pet ashes
Keeping a small share of the ashes in jewelry or a keepsake raises no legal questions at all. Rules matter only if you plan to post ashes, carry them abroad or leave them somewhere other people also use. For any travel, keep the crematory's certificate with the ashes. Here's what applies in Indonesia.
Choosing and filling the urn, step by step
- Ask the crematory for its urn catalog before the appointment, rather than being handed it at reception when you're least able to think.
- Choose while your pet is still with you if that feels right; some families find it easier while there's time.
- Size the urn from their weight at their best, and allow a little room so the sealed bag slides in easily.
- Tell the crematory which urn you've picked so the ashes can be transferred into it before you collect them.
- Leave the engraving until the dates are final. An engraved plate can always be attached a couple of weeks afterwards.
- Plan who will collect the urn, or who will be home to sign for it if it's delivered.
Keepsakes, displays and living memorials
For some families, the most meaningful memorial is a living one: a tree planted with a biodegradable urn, a rose bed in the garden or a bench somewhere your pet loved. You can combine one with an indoor urn by setting aside a portion of the ashes first. Our guide to ash volume, temporary containers and shares explains how shares are usually packed.

Questions people ask
How many communities do you cover in Indonesia?
We currently have local pet urn guides for 1 communities in Indonesia, including Jakarta. Each page covers local price ranges, delivery and engraving timing, climate tips for indoor and outdoor urns, and the basic rules for scattering and burial.
Can I bury my pet's urn at home in Indonesia?
Burying ashes on land you own is generally allowed and much simpler than burying a body. Renters need the landlord's agreement, and homeowners' associations can be stricter. A biodegradable urn returns to the soil; a sealed wooden or metal urn lasts much longer. If you might move, keep a portion indoors.
Can an urn be buried in a pet cemetery in Indonesia?
Many pet cemeteries accept urns, and burying ashes usually costs far less than a full burial, since the plot can be smaller. Some cemeteries ask for a particular type of urn or vault, and many charge yearly upkeep. Ask about both before buying, and choose a durable or biodegradable urn to suit their rules.
Which places in Indonesia have the widest choice of pet urns?
Usually the largest cities, such as Jakarta, where crematories keep display ranges and independent makers and engravers are easier to find. Smaller towns rely more on the vet clinic's catalog and on delivery from online shops. If you'd like to see urns in person, a trip to the nearest large city can be worth it for stone or glass.
What should I ask a crematory in Indonesia about urns?
Ask what container the ashes come back in, whether an urn is included in the price, what an upgrade would cost and whether they'll place the ashes into an urn you bring. Ask too how long engraving takes if you order through them. Getting the answers in writing makes it easy to compare with any urn you find elsewhere.
Which urn materials cope best with the weather in Indonesia?
Indoors, almost any urn is fine away from direct sun and heaters. Outdoors, granite, sealed stone and outdoor-rated metal handle both heat and frost; wood and unglazed ceramic don't. With summer highs around °F in Indonesia and winter lows near °F in Indonesia, the right choice depends on where you are.
