Pet Urns in Daejeon: what to know
In Daejeon, as elsewhere, the urn is often the memorial families keep longest, sometimes for decades. That's a good reason not to rush it. Choose a material you'll still like in ten years, a lid that closes securely and a size close to the ashes you have. If you'd like a second opinion, send us your pet's details and we'll email some options.
Engraving is where most urn orders in Daejeon slow down. A plain urn can often be collected or shipped quickly; a name, dates, a photo or a paw print adds a proof, a production step and sometimes weeks. If you have a date in mind, such as a memorial gathering, tell the seller before you order and ask for the making and shipping times separately.

Local cremation habits and the urn question
Cremation is familiar in Daejeon, where roughly 92.43%[1] of deaths end in it, and that familiarity has a practical upside: people know what an urn weighs, how much it holds and how awkward a lid can be. Pet owners here tend to ask sellers sharp questions, and you should too. Get the capacity, the way it closes and the delivery date in writing before you pay.
We take the Daejeon percentage from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It refers to people; attitudes to cremating a pet tend to follow it.
Budgeting for an urn and keepsakes in Daejeon
In much of Asia, small apartments shape the urn choice more than price does. A compact urn or a keepsake on a home altar is common, and many pet crematoria sell urns designed for columbarium niches. We don't yet have sourced local urn prices, so the table shows US material prices for relative comparison: marble costs about three times as much as ceramic[2].
If you're ordering an urn from overseas for delivery to Daejeon, add shipping, duties and the risk of breakage to the price. A locally made urn, or one from your pet crematorium, avoids most of that. For a sense of how materials compare, US guides put ceramic pet urns at $20–$100[3] and marble or stone at $80–$300[4].

What Daejeon allows with pet ashes
Keeping a pet's ashes at home in an urn is allowed almost everywhere, and you don't need anyone's permission. The rules come in when the ashes leave the house: scattering in public places, burying an urn in a garden or sending ashes by post. Here's the basic picture for Daejeon.
Step by step in Daejeon
- Leave the temporary container sealed until the urn has arrived and you've checked it.
- Read how the urn opens. Many wooden urns open from the base with small screws; many metal ones have a threaded lid.
- Lay out a towel or tray across a table, with a funnel or spoon within reach should the bag need decanting.
- Place the sealed bag inside and fold the top over. Only open the bag if it truly won't fit.
- Close and secure the urn; a small dab of adhesive on a threaded lid stops curious hands and paws.
- Recycle or keep the temporary box; plenty of people store it alongside the paperwork, since it's part of the story.
Small ways to keep your pet's memory close
Some families tuck the collar tag, a whisker or a lock of fur inside the urn alongside the sealed bag of ashes. It keeps the whole story in one place. Check there's room first, especially for a big dog: by our estimate, a giant-breed dog of about 108 lb returns around 3.8 lb[6] of ashes, which fills a large urn quicker than people expect.

Questions people ask
Do crematories in Daejeon sell urns?
Almost all do, and many include a basic urn or box in their private cremation package. Their range is usually modest but sized to the ashes they return. You're free to decline it and buy elsewhere; the ashes are safe in the temporary container until your urn arrives.
Should I choose the urn before or after the cremation?
Either works. Choosing before means the ashes can come home already in the urn; choosing after gives you time and lets you size it to the actual ashes. Most families in Daejeon choose after, keeping the ashes in the temporary container for a few weeks while they decide.
How much does a pet urn cost in Daejeon?
Prices depend on material, size and personalization, and local price lists vary. Where we have sourced figures, they're on each city page; for example, one UK crematorium lists pet ashes caskets at £61–£151[7]. Ask any seller for a written price that includes engraving and delivery.
What size urn does my pet need?
Allow about one cubic inch of urn space for every pound of your pet's healthy weight, plus about 10% to close the lid comfortably. A 12 lb cat needs about 12 cubic inches; a 70 lb dog about 70[8]. The urn size calculator works it out in cubic inches and millilitres.
Can I send my pet's ashes to family in another part of Daejeon?
It depends on the carrier. In the US, only the Postal Service accepts cremated remains, by Priority Mail Express with a special label; some other countries' postal services refuse them. Sending an empty keepsake urn is easy. Many families carry the ashes themselves and pass them on in person.
Do I need permission to keep my pet's ashes at home in Daejeon?
No permission is needed to keep a pet's ashes indoors, and there's no time limit on how long they stay there. Permission only becomes a question if you want to scatter or bury them somewhere you don't own, like public parkland, a shoreline or a cemetery, where the landowner or managing authority decides.
