Mulberry, Georgia
How Mulberry families shop for a pet urn
Some families in the Mulberry area split the ashes three ways: a portion planted with a sapling in a biodegradable vessel, another kept in a small urn indoors, and a little saved as a keepsake for each child. Your provider can tell you roughly what weight of ashes comes back, which makes planning the split easier. There is no need to settle every detail in the first week.
Hot, humid summers and the occasional hard freeze are tough on cheap outdoor memorials in Gwinnett. Painted resin fades and thin concrete can crack, while granite, slate and cast bronze last for decades in a Georgia garden. If your HOA has rules about yard decorations, a flat stone set level with the lawn usually causes no trouble and is easy to mow around through the long growing season.
Rural roads and long carrier routes make timing less predictable around Mulberry. If you're planning a memorial on a particular date, order the urn as soon as you've decided and ask for the production time and the shipping time separately. Engraved and custom pieces add a step, so leave a margin of a couple of weeks. The ashes can stay in their temporary container until the urn arrives.
With roughly 41,445 residents, Mulberry is the 25th-largest of the 68 Georgia communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Mulberry are based about 36 miles away in Atlanta, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
If you want to compare providers, look at Braselton (5 miles), Buford (7 miles) and Sugar Hill (8 miles). Distance matters because pickup fees and the time until the ashes come back both grow with the drive.
Our estimate
15,500
Estimated dog- or cat-owning households in Mulberry
How we calculated this
41,445 ÷ 2.5 = 16,578 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 15,500. Multi-pet homes count once.

1,250
dog and cat deaths per year in Mulberry, our estimate
How we calculated this
15,500 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 1,250 a year. A floor, not a ceiling.

Keeping ashes at home: the local attitude
Roughly 54.2%[5] of people in Georgia are cremated, and the share has been rising for years. As cremation grows, so does the habit of keeping ashes at home. In national research on human cremation, 37%[6] of Americans said they would keep cremated remains at home in an urn. Many pet owners feel the same pull to keep a companion close.
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) is where the Georgia figure comes from. It counts people; we use it because attitudes to cremating a pet in Mulberry tend to follow attitudes to cremation generally.
Mulberry weather and your pet's urn
If you live near the coast, salt air is a bigger enemy than temperature. Raw brass and some metals darken quickly within sight of the sea, and outdoor metal can pit. Lacquered brass, powder-coated metal, glazed ceramic and stone all cope well. For a garden memorial in Mulberry, granite or a sealed stone urn will look the same in ten years as it does now.
Mulberry's climate is fairly gentle, so the weather rarely rushes any urn decision. You can bury, plant or scatter almost any time of year. The one month to plan around is March, usually the wettest: soaked ground makes digging messy, and scattering in rain is harder than it sounds. A dry, still morning in almost any other month works well.

How much to budget for an urn
One US crematory network publishes its pet urn prices: wooden urns from $55–$290[7], with most around $98, ceramic urns $90–$290[8] and metal urns $96–$265[9]. Its marble urns cost $260 to $345[9], about three times the price of ceramic, a gap that shows up in national price guides too[10]. Expect Mulberry providers to be in the same territory.

Where you can scatter or bury ashes in Georgia
Rules about pet ashes are about places, not containers. The urn you choose, whether it's engraved and how long you keep it are entirely your call. What follows for Georgia covers where scattering and burial are generally accepted, so you can plan any outdoor part of the memorial without worrying.
The official Georgia local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in Mulberry.
The rules that apply across Georgia (home burial, scattering and who oversees pet cremation) are summarized on our Georgia page. Mulberry may add its own conditions, so check with the city or county before digging.
From temporary container to urn
- Decide whether the urn is for display, burial or travel. That one choice rules out half the options.
- For display, pick something whose finish works with the room's light and decor, in a capacity that matches the ashes closely.
- For burial, pick something that breaks down naturally or a sealed box, having confirmed what Georgia rules and the landowner allow.
- For travel, choose wood or a sturdy container that can pass airport X-ray screening, and carry it in hand luggage.
- Order engraving with a written proof, and allow extra time for photo or custom work.
- Tell us what you're looking for through the contact form, and we'll email options that deliver to Mulberry.
Keepsakes, displays and living memorials
Because Mulberry is so new as a city, many residents arrived within the past decade and may not stay forever. That makes portable memorials popular: a keepsake urn on a bookshelf, engraved jewelry with a tiny chamber for ash, or a framed paw print that can go wherever the family goes next. Nothing forces a quick decision, and the temporary container from the provider is fine for months while you think.

Questions people ask
When is the hardest time of year to arrange a burial in Mulberry?
January: average lows are below freezing then, and frozen ground makes a home grave slow or impossible until it thaws. The other pressure point is July, when highs around 88°F mean a body needs cooling and collecting quickly.
Is cremation common in Georgia?
For people, yes: about 54.2%[5] of Georgia deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Mulberry follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Will I have to travel to Atlanta to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Atlanta (roughly 36 miles from Mulberry) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Mulberry?
Usually yes. Braselton is about 5 miles away, Buford is about 7 miles away and Sugar Hill is about 8 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Can I scatter my pet's ashes in a park near Mulberry?
Often you can, but parks set their own rules, and some ask you to request permission first. Choose a quiet spot away from paths, playgrounds and water intakes, scatter close to the ground and downwind, and leave nothing behind. If you're unsure, check with the parks department or scatter on private land with the owner's agreement.
What urn works best outdoors in Mulberry's climate?
Granite, sealed stone, glazed ceramic and outdoor-rated metal handle mild, damp weather well. Wood and unglazed ceramic are best kept indoors. Around March, the wettest month, check that any outdoor urn's lid is sealed so rainwater can't get in, or bury the ashes under a stone marker instead.
