Summerlin, Nevada
Choosing a pet urn in Summerlin
Summerlin interiors often lean clean and contemporary, and many families pick memorials to match: a matte ceramic urn, a framed ink paw print, a slim pendant holding a pinch of ash. You can leave the decision for weeks. Ashes returned in the crematory's plain box are fine on a closet shelf, so you can wait until the whole household agrees on something.
Las Vegas Valley residents move often, whether across town or out of state, so a memorial that travels easily makes sense. A small brass urn, a keepsake bracelet or a clay nose print fits in a carry-on. When relatives back east or in California want a portion, mention it when you book and the provider can portion the ashes out.
Some families in Summerlin have more than one pet, and they think about the urn with that in mind. If you'd like matching urns over the years, choose a design from a seller who has made it for a long time, or a local woodworker who can repeat it. Companion urns that hold two sets of ashes exist, but most people find separate matching urns easier, since pets rarely die close together.
Summerlin's population is around 100,000, the 6th-largest of the 11 Nevada communities we cover. Las Vegas, roughly 9 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Summerlin run from there.
If you want to compare providers, look at Las Vegas (10 miles, a larger centre), North Las Vegas (14 miles, a larger centre) and Henderson (21 miles, a larger centre). Distance matters because pickup fees and the time until the ashes come back both grow with the drive.
Our estimate
37,000
Summerlin: dog- or cat-owning households, our estimate
How we calculated this
100,000 ÷ 2.5 = 40,000 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 37,000. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate
3,050
Estimated dog and cat losses in Summerlin each year
How we calculated this
37,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 3,050 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.

Why urns are common in Nevada
When cremation covers around 80.7%[5] of deaths, as it does in Nevada, ashes stop being an awkward subject at the dinner table. That openness helps with a pet. Relatives are more likely to ask for a small share, and friends may already know a potter or an engraver. Tell people you're choosing an urn; the most useful leads often come from someone who did it recently.
The Nevada percentage above is from Direct Cremate (citing CANA) (2024) and refers to human funerals. Treat it as context for Summerlin, not as a count of pets.
Summerlin weather and your pet's urn
Wherever you live, the room the urn sits in matters more than the weather outside. Bathrooms and kitchens bring steam and grease, and a spot beside an outside door catches drafts. A shelf in a bedroom, study or living room, out of direct sunlight, keeps most urns looking the way they did the day they arrived.

What pet urns cost in Summerlin
One industry report says personalized pet urns range from about $50 to more than $1,000[6], and most of that spread comes from hand work: a sculpted figurine or a commissioned ceramic takes far longer than a laser-engraved box. Basic urns start at around $50[7]. For most Summerlin families, the sweet spot is a solid wooden or ceramic urn with name engraving, well under $200 all in.

Before you scatter or bury in Nevada
If you'd like to bury the urn itself, the material matters for more than looks. A biodegradable urn breaks down within a few seasons, while metal, resin or sealed hardwood stays intact for years, which some cemeteries and landowners prefer and others don't accept. Check before you order. The notes below summarize Nevada.
The official Nevada local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in Summerlin.
For Nevada's rules on burying a pet at home or scattering ashes, see the Nevada guide. Local rules in Summerlin can be stricter than the state's, especially in homeowners' associations and rentals.
Choosing and filling the urn, step by step
- Decide whether the urn is for display, burial or travel. That one choice rules out half the options.
- For display, choose a material that suits your room and light, and a size close to your pet's ashes.
- For burial, pick something that breaks down naturally or a sealed box, having confirmed what Nevada rules and the landowner allow.
- For travel, choose wood or a sturdy container that can pass airport X-ray screening, and carry it in hand luggage.
- Order engraving with a written proof, and allow extra time for photo or custom work.

Keeping your pet close in Summerlin
Mojave sun is hard on anything left outside: it fades paint, cracks resin and heats bronze enough to sting a hand in July. If you want an outdoor marker, natural stone or granite placed in a shaded corner of a desert-landscaped yard works best. Many Summerlin HOAs regulate yard features, so check the rules before placing anything. Glass and wood belong indoors.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Summerlin?
Usually yes. Las Vegas is about 10 miles away, North Las Vegas is about 14 miles away and Henderson is about 21 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Is cremation common in Nevada?
For people, yes: about 80.7%[5] of Nevada deaths end in cremation, according to Direct Cremate (citing CANA) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Summerlin follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Will I have to travel to Las Vegas to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Las Vegas (roughly 9 miles from Summerlin) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Is Summerlin big enough to have several pet aftercare providers?
Probably, on the numbers. By our estimate about 37,000 Summerlin households keep a dog or cat and around 3,050 lose one each year, which is enough steady demand to support more than one provider. We derive that from population (about 100,000), household size and national ownership and lifespan figures.
How long does an engraved urn take to arrive in Summerlin?
It depends on the seller and the work involved. Simple laser engraving on wood or brass can be quick, while photo engraving, hand-painted figurines and custom ceramics can take several weeks. One Australian crematory, for example, quotes about two weeks for a laser-engraved metal urn[9]. Always ask for the making time and the shipping time separately, then add a margin if a date matters.
How much does a pet urn cost in Summerlin?
National price guides put ceramic pet urns at $20–$100[10], wooden ones at $30–$150[11] and marble or stone at $80–$300[12]. Keepsakes cost less, at $15–$60[13] (per one large retailer). Summerlin prices usually fall inside those ranges; engraving and delivery add to the total, so ask for a written price for the finished urn.
