Where families in Sentosa find their urns
For many Sentosa residents, the sea is part of daily life: boats in the marina, sunsets toward the Southern Islands, the beaches at Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong. It is natural to want a memorial tied to the water. Scattering ashes at sea off Singapore is regulated, so ask a provider whether it can be done for a pet and where.
Families on Sentosa often keep ashes at home rather than in a columbarium, choosing a spot with a view the animal loved, such as a shelf facing the marina or a corner of the terrace. A sea-glass urn, a small bronze paw or a photograph printed on aluminium suits the light-filled houses of the Cove, and a keepsake can travel if the family relocates.
Farm families around Sentosa sometimes need urns for animals most urn sellers don't think about: a working collie, a pair of barn cats, a much-loved goat. For larger animals, check capacity carefully, since extra-large urns are less common and cost more. For several small animals, a shelf of matching simple boxes, or a single garden memorial with the ashes buried beneath, can be easier than a separate urn for each.
Sentosa's population is around 1,800, the 5th-largest of the 5 Central communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Sentosa are based about 7 miles away in Singapore, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
Our pages for Marina Bay (3 miles, a larger centre), Orchard (4 miles, a larger centre) and Singapore (7 miles, a larger centre) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Sentosa as well.

Keeping ashes at home: the local attitude
About 81.16%[1] of people in Singapore are cremated, one of the higher rates around. A high cremation rate means a well-developed market for urns: more sellers, more materials and more local engravers who've done it before. For pet owners, that mostly means choice and competition, so it's worth comparing a crematory's counter price with an online maker's delivered price before deciding.
The Singapore figure comes from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It describes people, not pets, so read it as a sign of local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
Sentosa weather and your pet's urn
Local weather also affects deliveries. Storms, extreme heat and holiday rushes can all add days to an urn's journey, and fragile ceramic or glass travels best in mild weather. If a date matters, order early and ask the seller for the making time and shipping time separately. Your provider in Sentosa can tell you what they'd recommend at this time of year.

How much to budget for an urn
If you're ordering an urn from overseas for delivery to Sentosa, add shipping, duties and the risk of breakage to the price. A locally made urn, or one from your pet crematorium, avoids most of that. For a sense of how materials compare, US guides put ceramic pet urns at $20–$100[2] and marble or stone at $80–$300[5].

Before you scatter or bury in Central
Pet ashes are sterile, mineral remains, so the rules around them are lighter than for burying a body. Still, a few things are worth checking before you scatter or bury: who owns the land, whether a park or beach has its own policy and, if you'll bury an urn, whether it's biodegradable. Here's what applies in Central.
In Singapore, most families live in flats, so compact urns and home altars are common. Pet columbaria offer niches as an alternative: one lists them from SGD 300 for the first year with SGD 180 yearly renewal[7]. Check a niche's internal dimensions before buying an urn, since not every design fits.
How to get from ashes to urn
- Decide whether each pet gets its own urn or whether you'd like a matching set that grows over the years.
- Pick a design that will still be made later, ideally one a nearby craftsperson could reproduce, if future urns need to match.
- Size each urn for one pet; a shared companion urn only makes sense once both sets of ashes are home.
- Label the base of every urn, naming who it holds and when, whatever is engraved on the front, so there's no confusion later.
- Leave shelf space next to the first urn, so that adding another later doesn't mean moving everything around.
- File each crematory certificate with its urn, whether that's an envelope fixed to the underside or all of them in one drawer.
Small ways to keep your pet's memory close
Salt spray and humidity are hard on outdoor memorials on the island. Ordinary steel rusts and cheap finishes blister within a year or two. Granite, marine-grade stainless steel and glazed ceramic hold up well. A potted frangipani or bougainvillea on a terrace, with a little ash mixed through the soil, can become a living memorial that flowers most of the year.

Questions people ask
Is cremation common in Singapore?
For people, yes: about 81.16%[1] of Singapore deaths end in cremation, according to Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Sentosa follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Where are the providers that serve Sentosa actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Singapore, about 7 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Sentosa and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Sentosa?
Usually yes. Marina Bay is about 3 miles away, Orchard is about 4 miles away and Singapore is about 7 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Can I move my pet's ashes into the urn myself?
Yes, and it's usually simpler than people fear. Most ashes come back in a sealed plastic bag, which you can lift out and place straight into the urn. If the bag won't fit through the opening, work over a tray indoors, away from drafts, and use a spoon or wide funnel. Some crematories will transfer the ashes for you if you drop the urn off.
What size urn does my dog or cat need?
The usual rule is one cubic inch of urn space for every pound your pet weighed when healthy. By that rule, a 12 lb cat needs about 12 cubic inches and a 70 lb dog about 70[6]. Add about 10% for room to close the lid. The urn size calculator works it out for you.
Do I have to buy an urn right away?
No. After a private cremation, the ashes come back in a sealed temporary container, usually a bag inside a box or tin, and they're safe in it indefinitely. Many families in Sentosa wait a few weeks, or even months, before choosing an urn. Waiting often leads to a better choice, because the first days after a loss aren't the easiest time for design decisions.
