Where you can scatter or bury ashes in Central
Keeping a small share of the ashes in jewelry or a keepsake raises no legal questions at all. Rules matter only if you plan to post ashes, carry them abroad or leave them somewhere other people also use. For any travel, keep the crematory's certificate with the ashes. In Singapore, most families live in flats, so compact urns and home altars are common. Pet columbaria offer niches as an alternative: one lists them from SGD 300 for the first year with SGD 180 yearly renewal[8]. Check a niche's internal dimensions before buying an urn, since not every design fits.
A simple plan for the urn decision
- Ask what came with the cremation. Many packages include a basic urn, and some let you upgrade for the difference.
- Check how the ashes came back. Most are in a sealed bag inside a box or tin; note its size before measuring any urn.
- Shortlist two or three urns whose listing gives a real volume figure in cubic inches or litres rather than a vague size word.
- Ask each seller for making time and shipping time separately, especially if a date matters.
- Unpack the urn the day it arrives, so any chip or dent gets reported without delay.
- Place it out of direct sun, well clear of radiators, somewhere steady and high enough that neither a child nor another pet can get to it.
Remembering your pet, in Singapore and beyond
HDB and condo living means memorials usually need to be compact. A small urn on a shelf, a photo frame with an ash compartment, or a memorial pendant fits easily into a flat. Put it high enough that pets and small children can't knock it down, on a surface that doesn't wobble. Many families choose a spot they pass every day; others prefer somewhere private, like a bedroom. Either is right if it feels right to you.
Can I see pet urns in person in Singapore before buying?
Usually yes. Many pet crematories in a city the size of Singapore keep display cabinets, and some memorial suppliers and craft studios have showrooms. Handling an urn tells you its real weight, finish and how the lid works. Call ahead to ask what's on display, and bring your pet's weight so you can check capacity on the spot.
Can I bury my pet's urn in my yard in Central?
Burying ashes on land you own is generally allowed, and it's much simpler than burying a body. If you rent, ask your landlord; if you're in a homeowners' association, check its rules. A biodegradable urn returns to the soil; a sealed wooden or metal urn lasts much longer. If you might move, consider keeping a small portion indoors in a keepsake.
How do I make sure the engraving is right?
