Scattering and burial rules in Catalonia
Keeping a small share of the ashes in jewelry or a keepsake raises no legal questions at all. Rules matter only if you plan to post ashes, carry them abroad or leave them somewhere other people also use. For any travel, keep the crematory's certificate with the ashes. Here's what applies in Catalonia.
In Spain, pet cremation with an urn is widely available through vets and crematorios de mascotas, and many families keep the ashes at home. Scattering rules are set locally, so check with your ayuntamiento before scattering in a public place. Urns are sized in litres.
A simple plan for the urn decision
- Bring the ashes home as they are. That interim box is closed and secure; they can stay in it as long as you like.
- Weigh up how many people want a share. A partner, a child away at college, a parent in another state: decide before buying anything.
