Pet Urns in Valencia: what to know
Across the 2 Valencia communities we cover, from Valencia and Alicante to smaller towns, the urn market looks broadly similar: crematory ranges of wood, ceramic and metal, plus online and local makers for anything more personal. What changes is delivery time, the chance to see an urn in person and, in some places, the climate an outdoor memorial has to survive.
Across Valencia, one question comes up more often than price or material: what to do when people in the family want different things. One wants the ashes at home, another wants them scattered, a third wants a pendant. The answer is usually all three. Keep the shares small, write down who has what and choose the main urn last.

Cremation customs in Valencia and your pet
In Valencia, about 50.11%[1] of people are cremated. That middle-ground rate means many families are choosing an urn for the first time, with no older relative's urn to copy. If that's you, start simple: know the capacity you need, decide whether it's for display or for burial and give yourself time. The urn size calculator turns your pet's weight into a capacity in seconds.

Pet urn and engraving prices for Valencia
Prices for pet urns in Spain vary by maker and material, and we don't yet have a local source we can cite. Rather than an invented range, here's a useful rule from published lists elsewhere: engraving on a mid-priced wooden urn can add about a third to its price[2], so always ask whether the price quoted in Valencia includes personalization.
Urns in Spain are usually sized in litres, which makes online shopping easier if you know the conversion: one litre is about 61 cubic inches. Ordering from outside the EU can add customs charges and delays, so a local maker or your local crematorium may work out cheaper overall. For a rough benchmark, UK pet caskets cost £61–£151[3] at one crematorium.
| Urn | Published price | Market |

Where you can scatter or bury ashes in Valencia
There are no rules about which urn you use or how long the ashes stay in their temporary container. Where local rules do apply is burial and scattering. As a general guide, private land with the owner's permission is simplest; parks, beaches and waterways often have their own rules, and some ask you to request permission first.
In Spain, pet cremation with an urn is widely available through vets and crematorios de mascotas, and many families keep the ashes at home. Scattering rules are set locally, so check with your ayuntamiento before scattering in a public place. Urns are sized in litres.
A simple plan for the urn decision
- Talk to the family first. Find out who wants a small share, and whether some ashes are going into the ground or the wind.
- Set aside the shares before filling the main urn; the ashes sharing planner shows how much each person can have.
- Buy matching keepsakes for family living elsewhere, and deliver them face to face rather than by mail where possible.
- If you must post ashes, check your postal service's rules first. In the US, only USPS accepts them, by Priority Mail Express.
- Choose the main urn last, after the shares are out, sized to what remains.
- Plan any scattering for a calm, dry day, and keep a little back in case someone wants to join later.
Ways to remember your pet at home
An urn doesn't have to be the final resting place. Plenty of people keep the ashes at home for a year or two and then decide to bury them, scatter them or split them further. Choosing an urn that opens easily, with the ashes still in their sealed bag, keeps every one of those choices open.

Questions people ask
Can I bury my pet's urn at home in Valencia?
Burying ashes on land you own is generally allowed and much simpler than burying a body. Renters need the landlord's agreement, and homeowners' associations can be stricter. A biodegradable urn returns to the soil; a sealed wooden or metal urn lasts much longer. If you might move, keep a portion indoors.
Do I need permission to keep my pet's ashes at home in Valencia?
No permission is needed to keep a pet's ashes indoors, and there's no time limit on how long they stay there. Permission only becomes a question if you want to scatter or bury them somewhere you don't own, like public parkland, a shoreline or a cemetery, where the landowner or managing authority decides.
Should I choose the urn before or after the cremation?
Either works. Choosing before means the ashes can come home already in the urn; choosing after gives you time and lets you size it to the actual ashes. Most families in Valencia choose after, keeping the ashes in the temporary container for a few weeks while they decide.
Can an urn be buried in a pet cemetery in Valencia?
Many pet cemeteries accept urns, and burying ashes usually costs far less than a full burial, since the plot can be smaller. Some cemeteries ask for a particular type of urn or vault, and many charge yearly upkeep. Ask about both before buying, and choose a durable or biodegradable urn to suit their rules.
What should I ask a crematory in Valencia about urns?
Ask what container the ashes come back in, whether an urn is included in the price, what an upgrade would cost and whether they'll place the ashes into an urn you bring. Ask too how long engraving takes if you order through them. Getting the answers in writing makes it easy to compare with any urn you find elsewhere.
Where can I scatter my pet's ashes in Valencia?
Private land with the owner's permission is the simplest choice. Parks, beaches and waterways often have their own rules, and some ask you to request permission first. Pick a quiet spot away from paths and water intakes, scatter close to the ground and downwind, and consider keeping a little back in a keepsake.
