Cabot, Arkansas
What choosing an urn is like in Cabot
Cabot's churches and community events bring many families together, and some choose memorials that reach beyond the home: a memorial brick or stone in a garden, a donation to an animal shelter in the pet's name, or a tree planted for others to enjoy. At home, a simple urn or a framed paw print is often all a family needs.
Cabot families often have grandparents and relatives across Lonoke and White counties, and a family pet may be loved by several households. Small keepsake urns, paw print impressions or pendants let each one keep a share. Ask about dividing ashes when you first request options, since it's simpler to arrange at the start than once the ashes are home. Labels help keep them straight.
Families in and around Cabot often have land, which makes burying the ashes, or part of them, a natural choice. You can bury ashes in almost any container, but a biodegradable urn returns to the soil, while a sealed wooden box or a metal urn lasts much longer. If there's any chance the land will be sold, think about keeping a portion indoors in a keepsake so you're not leaving everything behind.
Cabot's population is around 27,711, the 19th-largest of the 26 Arkansas communities we cover. Little Rock, roughly 22 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Cabot run from there.
Our pages for Jacksonville (9 miles), Sherwood (13 miles) and North Little Rock (18 miles, a larger centre) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Cabot as well.
Our estimate
10,000
How many dog- or cat-owning households Cabot has (estimate)
How we calculated this
27,711 ÷ 2.5 = 11,084 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 10,000. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate
850
Cabot families who lose a dog or cat each year (estimate)
How we calculated this
10,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 850 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.

Why urns are common in Arkansas
About 52.2%[5] of people in Arkansas are cremated, so cremation and burial both have a place here. For pets, cremation is by far the more practical choice, and many families in Cabot end up with an urn even if their own family tradition leans towards burial. Some bridge the two by burying the urn itself, in a garden or a pet cemetery, which gives a graveside feeling without a full burial.
The Arkansas figure comes from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It describes people, not pets, so read it as a sign of local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
Cabot weather and your pet's urn
For an outdoor memorial in Cabot's heat, choose stone, granite or a metal rated for outdoor use and place it in partial shade. Dark granite gets hot to the touch in July but won't be damaged. If you're planting a tree with a biodegradable urn, avoid planting at the height of summer: young trees struggle in June, July and August, and a cooler season gives the roots time to settle.
Scattering in Cabot's hottest months is easier early in the morning, before the heat builds and the afternoon wind picks up. Ashes are fine, pale grit rather than soft dust, and they drift further than people expect in a breeze. Stand with the wind at your back, pour close to the ground and bring a bottle of water to rinse your hands. If July feels too harsh, there's no reason not to wait for autumn.

Urn prices by material, and what adds to them
What you'll pay for an urn in Cabot depends mostly on material and size. A national price guide puts ceramic pet urns at $20–$100[6], wooden ones at $30–$150[7], metal at $40–$200[8] and marble or stone at $80–$300[9]. Local crematory counters and online sellers both tend to land inside those ranges, so use them to spot a price that's out of line, and ask for a total that includes engraving and delivery.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for Arkansas: Arkansas costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

Rules worth knowing before you scatter or bury
Water is the place families ask about most. Scattering on a lake, a river or the sea feels natural to many people, but local authorities and park managers can have their own requirements, and some ask that only water-soluble urns are used. The general notes for Arkansas follow; whoever manages that stretch of water has the final say.
Arkansas keeps an official directory of local governments; use it to reach the county or city office that covers Cabot.
We keep Arkansas's burial and scattering rules in one place: the Arkansas rules summary. Before a home burial in Cabot, also ask the city whether local ordinances add anything.
How to get from ashes to urn
- Talk to the family first. Agree who would like a keepsake and whether any ashes will be scattered or buried.
- Set aside the shares before filling the main urn; the ashes sharing planner shows how much each person can have.
- Buy matching keepsakes for family living elsewhere, and deliver them face to face rather than by mail where possible.
- If you must post ashes, read your carrier's rules before packing. USPS is the only US service that takes them, and only via Priority Mail Express.
- Choose the main urn once you know what's left, sized for that amount.
- Plan any scattering for still, dry weather, and hold a small amount in reserve for anyone who asks to take part afterwards.
Keeping your pet close in Cabot
Many Cabot homes have backyards large enough for a garden memorial: an engraved stone, a flowering shrub, or a small tree planted with a biodegradable urn. Fall is the kindest planting time in central Arkansas. Choose a spot that stays dry after heavy rain and where you'll see it from a window. Indoors, an urn or photo frame keeps your pet close.

Questions people ask
Is cremation common in Arkansas?
For people, yes: about 52.2%[5] of Arkansas deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Cabot follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Will I have to travel to Little Rock to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Little Rock (roughly 22 miles from Cabot) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
How many pet owners live in Cabot?
By our estimate, about 10,000 households in Cabot have at least one dog or cat, and around 850 are lost each year. We calculate this from the city's population of about 27,711, the average household size and national ownership and lifespan figures, so treat it as a floor rather than an exact count.
When is the hardest time of year to arrange a burial in Cabot?
There is no frozen-ground season here; average lows stay above freezing all year. The other pressure point is July, when highs around 91°F mean a body needs cooling and collecting quickly.
How long does an engraved urn take to arrive in Cabot?
It depends on the seller and the work involved. Simple laser engraving on wood or brass can be quick, while photo engraving, hand-painted figurines and custom ceramics can take several weeks. One Australian crematory, for example, quotes about two weeks for a laser-engraved metal urn[11]. Always ask for the making time and the shipping time separately, then add a margin if a date matters.
What size urn does my dog or cat need?
The usual rule is one cubic inch of urn space for every pound your pet weighed when healthy. By that rule, a 12 lb cat needs about 12 cubic inches and a 70 lb dog about 70[12]. Add about 10% for room to close the lid. The urn size calculator works it out for you.
