Lake Mary, Florida
Choosing a pet urn in Lake Mary
The rainy season, from about June to September, brings heavy downpours and humidity that can mark wood and metal. Stone, porcelain and sealed glass hold up well if a memorial will sit on a screened porch or lanai. If you choose a tree urn, plant it at the start of the rains so the tree establishes before the drier months arrive.
Lake Mary homes tend to be modern and well-maintained, and many families prefer memorials that fit a clean interior: a sleek ceramic urn, a framed print of a paw or hoof, or a small glass keepsake. Families who want an outdoor marker often find that a flush-set stone among the flower beds tends to satisfy association architectural committees more easily than anything upright.
If you live near Lake Mary but work or shop in Orlando, it may be simpler to have the urn delivered there, or to choose one in person at a crematory or memorial supplier in the larger centre. That's especially true for heavy pieces like marble or granite. Just ask for the exact capacity in cubic inches before you drive anywhere, so you know it will fit the ashes you have.
With roughly 16,789 residents, Lake Mary is the 137th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Lake Mary are based about 16 miles away in Orlando, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
If you want to compare providers, look at Sanford (3 miles, a larger centre), Longwood (4 miles) and Winter Springs (4 miles, a larger centre). Distance matters because pickup fees and the time until the ashes come back both grow with the drive.

Estimated dog- or cat-owning households in Lake Mary
How we calculated this

How we calculated this
6,200 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 510 a year. A floor, not a ceiling.

Local cremation habits and the urn question
About 72.5%[5] of people in Florida are cremated, one of the higher rates around. A high cremation rate means a well-developed market for urns: more sellers, more materials and more local engravers who've done it before. For pet owners, that mostly means choice and competition, so it's worth comparing a crematory's counter price with an online maker's delivered price before deciding.
The Florida figure comes from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It describes people, not pets, so read it as a sign of local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
Heat, cold and damp: materials for Lake Mary
Lake Mary summers are hot, with July highs averaging about 92°F. Heat doesn't harm ashes, but it does age urns. A wooden urn on a sunny windowsill will fade within a season or two, printed photo panels bleach and some resin figurines can soften in a very hot room or car. Choose a spot on an inside wall, away from west-facing windows, and draw the blinds on the hottest afternoons.
Don't leave an urn, or the temporary container of ashes, in a parked car in a Lake Mary summer. The ashes won't change, but glued photo frames, resin and some finishes can warp at the temperatures a closed car reaches. It's also simply a hard thing to come back to. Bring the ashes straight inside when you collect them, and keep the urn out of direct sun once it's home.

Pet urn and engraving prices for Lake Mary
One industry report says personalized pet urns range from about $50 to more than $1,000[6], and most of that spread comes from hand work: a sculpted figurine or a commissioned ceramic takes far longer than a laser-engraved box. Basic urns start at around $50[7]. For most Lake Mary families, the sweet spot is a solid wooden or ceramic urn with name engraving, well under $200 all in.

Rules worth knowing before you scatter or bury
There are no rules about which urn you use or how long the ashes stay in their temporary container. Where local rules do apply is burial and scattering. As a general guide, private land with the owner's permission is simplest; parks, beaches and waterways often have their own rules, and some ask you to request permission first.
The official Florida local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in Lake Mary.
For Florida's rules on burying a pet at home or scattering ashes, see the Florida guide. Local rules in Lake Mary can be stricter than the state's, especially in homeowners' associations and rentals.
How to get from ashes to urn
- Ask what came with the cremation. Many packages include a basic urn, and some let you upgrade for the difference.
- Check how the ashes came back. Usually it's a closed bag sitting in a tin or cardboard box; measure that first, since any urn has to hold it.
- Shortlist two or three urns with capacity listed in cubic inches or litres, not just 'small' or 'large'.
- Ask each seller for making time and shipping time separately, especially if a date matters.
- Unpack the urn the day it arrives and report any damage straight away.
- Place it out of direct sun and away from heaters, on a stable surface at a height pets and children can't reach.
Sharing a pet's memory across the family
Many Lake Mary households moved here for work and have family spread across the country. Keepsake urns, pendants and small prints of paw impressions can be shared with relatives who never lived nearby. Before ordering, find out roughly what volume of ash will come back; a cat returns far less than a large animal, and that figure decides whether four pendants and two vials are realistic or whether a single shared urn makes more sense.

Questions people ask
Which nearby towns can I compare with Lake Mary?
The closest communities we cover are Sanford (about 3 miles), Longwood (about 4 miles) and Winter Springs (about 4 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Lake Mary too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 16 miles from Lake Mary) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Roughly how many pets die in Lake Mary each year?
Our estimate is around 510. It comes from Lake Mary's population (about 16,789), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 6,200 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
Does the Lake Mary climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 92°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.
How do I make sure the engraving is right?
Ask for a written or digital proof before anything is engraved, and check the spelling of your pet's name, the dates and any line breaks. Have someone else read it too. Engraving can't be undone. Our guide to engraving and photo urn lead times explains what to check at each step.
Can two pets share one urn?
Yes. Companion urns are made to hold two sets of ashes, sometimes in separate compartments. Many families prefer matching single urns instead, because pets rarely die at the same time and a companion urn can sit half empty for years. If you do choose a shared urn, size it for both pets' combined weight.
