Parkland, Florida
How Parkland families shop for a pet urn
Parkland's large lots give many families room for a garden memorial: an engraved stone under a gumbo limbo, a bench by the lake or a butterfly bed. Homeowner association rules may limit what can be placed in front yards, so check first. Indoor options, from urns and keepsake jewelry to framed paw prints, work well too and move easily later.
Heat, humidity and hurricanes batter garden tributes in northwest Broward, where lots are open to the wind off the Everglades. Granite and dense stone hold up; wood, resin and painted metal fade or corrode. Set any marker on a firm, well-drained base, a little above the lawn, and consider where it will go if you ever need to move it before a storm or a sale.
If you live near Parkland but work or shop in Hialeah, it may be simpler to have the urn delivered there, or to choose one in person at a crematory or memorial supplier in the larger centre. That's especially true for heavy pieces like marble or granite. Just ask for the exact capacity in cubic inches before you drive anywhere, so you know it will fit the ashes you have.
With roughly 39,186 residents, Parkland is the 79th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Parkland are based about 32 miles away in Hialeah, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
For a second opinion on price, Coral Springs (4 miles, a larger centre), Coconut Creek (5 miles) and Margate (6 miles) are close enough that their providers cover Parkland routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.
Our estimate
14,500
Estimated dog- or cat-owning households in Parkland
How we calculated this
39,186 ÷ 2.5 = 15,674 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 14,500. Multi-pet homes count once.

How we calculated this
14,500 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 1,200 a year. Treat it as a minimum.

Cremation in Florida, and what it means for urns
Cremation is familiar in Florida, where roughly 72.5%[5] of deaths end in it, and that familiarity has a practical upside: people know what an urn weighs, how much it holds and how awkward a lid can be. Pet owners here tend to ask sellers sharp questions, and you should too. Get the capacity, the way it closes and the delivery date in writing before you pay.
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) is where the Florida figure comes from. It counts people; we use it because attitudes to cremating a pet in Parkland tend to follow attitudes to cremation generally.
Seasons, scattering and delivery in Parkland
Parkland summers are hot, with August highs averaging about 91°F. Heat doesn't harm ashes, but it does age urns. A wooden urn on a sunny windowsill will fade within a season or two, printed photo panels bleach and some resin figurines can soften in a very hot room or car. Choose a spot on an inside wall, away from west-facing windows, and draw the blinds on the hottest afternoons.
Lacquer and hand-painted finishes dry more slowly in humid heat, and some small workshops slow down their finishing work in May, June, July, August, September and October. If you're ordering a hand-finished urn for a summer date in Parkland, ask whether the season affects their schedule. Laser engraving on metal and stone isn't affected, which makes those materials the safer choice when time is short.

Budgeting for an urn and keepsakes in Parkland
Many Parkland families don't buy an urn separately at all. A Virginia provider, for example, prices private cremation packages at $189–$300[6]: the lowest comes with a temporary container, the next with a wooden urn and the top with a wooden photo urn. That kind of package upgrade is often the cheapest way to get a decent urn. Compare it with the ranges below before you order elsewhere.

Where you can scatter or bury ashes in Florida
Water is the place families ask about most. Scattering on a lake, a river or the sea feels natural to many people, but local authorities and park managers can have their own requirements, and some ask that only water-soluble urns are used. The general notes for Florida follow; whoever manages that stretch of water has the final say.
The official Florida local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in Parkland.
We keep Florida's burial and scattering rules in one place: the Florida rules summary. Before a home burial in Parkland, also ask the city whether local ordinances add anything.
What to do first, and what can wait
- Ask the crematory for its urn catalog before the appointment, so the choice isn't made at a front desk afterwards.
- Choose while your pet is still with you if that feels right; some families find it easier while there's time.
- Size the urn from their weight at their best, and allow a little room so the sealed bag slides in easily.
- Tell the crematory which urn you've picked so the ashes can be transferred into it before you collect them.
- Leave the engraving until the dates are final. An engraved plate can always be attached a couple of weeks afterwards.
- Plan who will collect the urn, or who will be home to sign for it if it's delivered.
Ways to remember your pet at home
Some Parkland families plant a native tree or sabal palm with a scoop of ashes buried in a plant-based urn at its base, creating a living memorial. Others commission a painted portrait from a photo, or a horseshoe or collar mounted in a shadow box. Commissioned work often needs a month or more, so confirm the timeline before you order.

Questions people ask
Will I have to travel to Hialeah to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Hialeah (roughly 32 miles from Parkland) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Is Parkland big enough to have several pet aftercare providers?
Probably, on the numbers. By our estimate about 14,500 Parkland households keep a dog or cat and around 1,200 lose one each year, which is enough steady demand to support more than one provider. We derive that from population (about 39,186), household size and national ownership and lifespan figures.
Does the Parkland climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In August, with highs near 91°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.
Why does the Parkland page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) reports about 72.5%[5] of Florida residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
Can I mail my pet's ashes to a relative from Parkland?
Within the US, the Postal Service is the only national carrier that accepts cremated remains, and it requires Priority Mail Express with a special label. Pack the ashes in a sealed inner container, cushioned inside a sturdy box. Sending an empty keepsake urn is much simpler: many families post the urn and pass on the ashes in person.
How many families in Parkland end up choosing a pet urn?
We can't count urns, but we can estimate the need. By our estimate, about 14,500 Parkland households have a dog or cat, and roughly 1,200 of those pets die each year. Many are cremated with ashes returned, and in national research on human cremation, 37%[8] of people said they'd keep ashes at home in an urn.
