Taft, Florida
Buying an urn locally or online in Taft
Many Taft homes have compact yards, so a memorial tree needs choosing with its mature size in mind. A dwarf citrus, a crape myrtle or a native shrub fits most lots, and a biodegradable urn can be planted beneath it. Renters, or anyone expecting to relocate, may prefer a tree in a large pot or an indoor keepsake, since either can come along to the next address.
Being close to Orlando gives Taft residents easy access to shops, and online orders arrive quickly, so you can take time over a keepsake. Urns, engraved stones, cremation jewelry and paw-print impressions come in a wide range of prices. Before the provider arrives, decide whether you'd like a print or a lock of fur taken; everything else can wait for a calmer week.
Rural roads and long carrier routes make timing less predictable around Taft. If you're planning a memorial on a particular date, order the urn as soon as you've decided and ask for the production time and the shipping time separately. Engraved and custom pieces add a step, so leave a margin of a couple of weeks. The ashes can stay in their temporary container until the urn arrives.
With roughly 2,000 residents, Taft is the 209th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Taft are based about 7 miles away in Orlando, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
For a second opinion on price, Pine Castle (3 miles, a larger centre), Sky Lake (3 miles, a larger centre) and Belle Isle (3 miles, a larger centre) are close enough that their providers cover Taft routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.
Our estimate
740
Estimated dog- or cat-owning households in Taft
How we calculated this

Cremation customs in Florida and your pet
Cremation is familiar in Florida, where roughly 72.5%[5] of deaths end in it, and that familiarity has a practical upside: people know what an urn weighs, how much it holds and how awkward a lid can be. Pet owners here tend to ask sellers sharp questions, and you should too. Get the capacity, the way it closes and the delivery date in writing before you pay.
We take the Florida rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Taft, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
Keeping an urn safe through Taft's seasons
Taft summers are hot, with July highs averaging about 92°F. Heat doesn't harm ashes, but it does age urns. A wooden urn on a sunny windowsill will fade within a season or two, printed photo panels bleach and some resin figurines can soften in a very hot room or car. Choose a spot on an inside wall, away from west-facing windows, and draw the blinds on the hottest afternoons.
If you're ordering an urn online in May, June, July, August and September, think about where it will wait after delivery. A parcel left on a sun-baked porch can get hot enough to soften adhesives on photo urns or warp a resin piece. Ceramic, stone and metal cope fine. Ask for a delivery window, require a signature or send it to your workplace so it goes inside as soon as it arrives.

What pet urns cost in Taft
If part of the ashes will go into the ground, the cost picture changes. Biodegradable pet urns run $15–$80[6] in one national guide, and outdoor rock or sandstone urns made to sit in a garden cost $300–$395[7] at one crematory network. A simple engraved garden stone over buried ashes is cheaper still: by our estimate, entry prices sit at ~$39[8] across three US sellers. For many Taft families, that pairing costs less than one marble urn.

Scattering and burial rules in Florida
Keeping a small share of the ashes in jewelry or a keepsake raises no legal questions at all. Rules matter only if you plan to post ashes, carry them abroad or leave them somewhere other people also use. For any travel, keep the crematory's certificate with the ashes. Here's what applies in Florida.
The official Florida local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in Taft.
Start with the Florida rules, which cover burial, scattering and oversight for the whole state, and treat Taft's local ordinances as a possible extra layer.
Step by step in Taft
- Talk to the family first. Find out who wants a small share, and whether some ashes are going into the ground or the wind.
- Set aside the shares first, and fill the main urn with what remains; the ashes sharing planner works out each person's portion.
- Buy matching keepsakes for relatives in other cities, and hand them over in person where you can.
- If you must post ashes, read your carrier's rules before packing. USPS is the only US service that takes them, and only via Priority Mail Express.
- Choose the main urn last, after the shares are out, sized to what remains.
- Plan any scattering for still, dry weather, and hold a small amount in reserve for anyone who asks to take part afterwards.
Small ways to keep your pet's memory close
Outdoor memorials in south Orange County face strong summer sun, heavy rain and constant humidity. A granite marker or sealed stone lasts better than untreated wood or painted concrete. Set it slightly raised or on a gravel bed so rainwater doesn't pool around it. Jewelry, photo frames and small urns do best indoors, in a cool room out of direct sunlight, where the colors won't fade.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Taft?
Usually yes. Pine Castle is about 3 miles away, Sky Lake is about 3 miles away and Belle Isle is about 3 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
How do Florida attitudes to cremation compare?
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) puts the Florida human cremation rate at about 72.5%[5]. We show it on the Taft page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 7 miles from Taft) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
How does Taft's weather affect pet aftercare?
July is the hottest month in Taft, with average highs around 92°F, so prompt collection matters most then. Winters are mild, with average lows staying above freezing, so outdoor burial or scattering is usually possible year round.
Can I scatter my pet's ashes in a park near Taft?
Often you can, but parks set their own rules, and some ask you to request permission first. Choose a quiet spot away from paths, playgrounds and water intakes, scatter close to the ground and downwind, and leave nothing behind. If you're unsure, check with the parks department or scatter on private land with the owner's agreement.
Can the crematory send the urn straight to our home near Taft?
Many can, though some prefer to return ashes through the vet clinic. Ask when you arrange the cremation. If they ship it, ask how the ashes will be packed, which carrier they use and whether a signature is needed. For a heavy stone urn, collecting it from the clinic may be simpler than waiting for a rural delivery.
