Local cremation habits and the urn question
About 46.1%[5] of people in Utah are cremated, and many families still think of a grave as the natural memorial. If that feels right for your pet too, you can have both: cremate, then bury the ashes in an urn in the garden or a pet cemetery, with a small marker on top. It's simpler and less costly than a full burial, and the grave can be dug at any time of year the ground allows.

Scattering on a lake, a river or the sea feels natural to many people, but local authorities and park managers can have their own requirements, and some ask that only water-soluble urns are used.
